Wheels Next Sea

Ride out Sunday 21st June

All agreed at the last meeting that the ride out should be to Wells to visit their first motorcycle show. The idea was to meet at 10am with the intention of setting off at 10.15am which within a few minutes worked fine. The day started rather cloudy and nobody was to sure of the weather to expect. A really good turn out of eleven bikes and a number of pillions was  good to see. Also good to see a cross section of machines from sports to cruisers.

A gentle ride to Downham Market and then onto Swafham were it was time to stop for tea and coffee. A nice little cafe found in the centre of the town and a number of other bikes also visiting. Those who have seen the TV programme Kingdom may recognize this area as I understand some of the filming is done in the town. Whilst we sat having tea there was a steady stream of motorcycles passing through. Sue spoke to some riders from Oundle who informed her that the club there was still going but with only a small number of members so something to follow up for a possible meet with them.

All refreshed so of we went again towards Fakenham. After a short distance the roads suddenly got wet so we were all expecting more to come but no, no sooner had we gone through the wet all dry again and the sun started to come out. On we went to Fakenham and then  Wells Next Sea all arriving together.

We pulled into the sports ground and paid the entrance a very reasonable £1 per wheel and also given a wooden block for the side stand to aid parking.

On arrival there was several bikes already there, I have no idea how many but certainly well over hundred or two and bikes were still arriving. There certainly was a good selection of bikes to look at in the parking area followed by those being exhibited. The cameras came out when the old classics were spotted and Andy has now found a kick start he wants. Some time was spent checking out the bikes before hunger took over and we headed for the chip shop. We joined the queue and soon had dinner which was enjoyed sitting on the wall by the harbour.

Again the show continued as we sat having dinner watching more bikes arrive.

After every body was ready we set off for home this time back to Fakenham, Kings Lynn, Wisbech and then home with a leg stretch in a lay by on route. Good job Sue was with us in the lay by otherwise we may all have had some extra boot cleaning to do on arriving home.

The ride finished with some heading direct home and others called in to Coates for a quick pint.

A successful ride out and looking forward to the next.

I have sent an email to those organising the event at Wells asking them to let us know if they do it again and congratulating them on the first show.
